About
The brief (aka panty) making workshop is geared towards anyone interested in making briefs with more front/crotch space than traditional women’s underwear. While open to all, trans femme, queer, and plus-size applicants will be prioritized.
7-8 hour workshop over two days
10-12 students per workshop, 2 instructors
Lunch provided on longer day
Go home with 2 self made briefs
All skill levels welcome –including people who’ve never sewn before
All supplies will be provided including fabric and sewing machines
Accessibility accommodations for disabled and/or chronically ill folks will be made including ASL interpretation if requested 2 weeks in advance
LGBTQIA+ prioritized, and some slots reserved specifically for low-income, plus-size, BIPOC, and disabled/chronically ill folks.
Beginner vs Experienced Sewists
These workshops are structured to accommodate all skill levels. There will be different start times in order to teach different skill levels, followed by open sewing time with instructors present for trouble shooting and questions.
If you’ve never sewn before, we’ll teach you!
If you sew but are new to knitwear and underwear, or want to use your serger (aka coverstitch machine), that’s great too.
Brief Options
The brief (aka panty) making workshop is geared towards anyone interested in making briefs with more front/crotch space than traditional women’s underwear. Trans femmes applicants will be prioritized.
Everyone’s first pair will be a regular everyday pair of briefs, in a cheeky or full coverage style (made to the measurements of your choosing).
Half way through the workshop, we’ll instruct on modifications for compression (or tucking), and other pattern and fit options –which you can try out on your second pair if you’d like.
Capacity & Fees:
This workshop is likely to fill up quickly, but depending on grant funding and what applicants are able to pay, we’ll try our hardest to host a second workshop in October.
The true cost of these workshops is around $100 per person. Our grant funding covers about 50%, making the suggested price $50. If you’re able to pay more, you’d be helping cover someone else’s fee who may need the financial support.
Once you’ve applied and been accepted, you’ll be given a unique fee range based on a combination of factors. You’d then register here, choosing your own price within that range. Of course, if it’s not a financial burden to pay on the higher end of your range, that is most helpful for the sustainability of these workshops.
Participants with a $0 fee are still required to register through the website, though payment information will not be taken.
Refunds will only be issued if we’re able to fill your spot from the waitlist and that person can pay a similar amount as you. Refunds will not be issued for cancellations within 1 week of the workshop –though in the case of an emergency we will transfer your attendance to a future workshop, if possible.
